A monthly box of sewing goodies, delivered to your door

Introducing Esther

Team SewHayleyJane has had a little growth spurt over the last few months, with two new lovely ladies helping out at HQ with prepping and packing your boxes and a new regular contributor to the magazine and blog!

Esther answered my call out back in August to fill in for Laura whilst she was on holiday and I fell in love with both her makes and her photography, and she’s super lovely too! Let’s get to know her a bit better!

First garment you made?

My first garment was the Bea blouse from Simply Sewing. I didn’t know anything about full bust or sway back adjustments, needless to say, the fit wasn’t great but the feeling of accomplishment was second to none.

Favourite fabric to work with?

I am partial to woven fabrics. My absolute favourite fabric to sew with is African wax print. It is very easy to cut and sew and the fabrics have the most beautiful prints.

Go-to pattern?

My current go to pattern is the By Hand London Anna dress. I have made 5 and on my way to make much more. I love absolutely love the bodice and would be adding it to a variety of skirts and trousers.

Sewing machine?

I sew on the Pfaff Quilt Ambition 2.0 and have the Singer Overlocker from Lidl.

Sewing snacks?

I don’t do much snacking as I sew but I always have a glass of blackcurrant Vimto squash

Sewing entertainment?

I’m always rewatching TV shows on Netflix or Amazon prime, it’s more like background noise at this point. I am currently watching ‘The Marvellous Mrs Maisel’ for the third time.

Where do you sew?

I turned my spare bedroom into my sewing haven. I am surrounded by Ikea furniture and my fabric stash. I also have an open rail full of my me mades that fills me with joy. I particularly love that I have a cutting table that is high enough for me to stand and cut out fabric, from Ikea, of course!
