A monthly box of sewing goodies, delivered to your door

Make Of The Month; Liz

Every month I look forward to seeing what amazing goodies are going to be included in my SewHayleyJane box and I am never disappointed! I savour the opening of my box and wait eagerly until my girls have gone to bed. I then make myself a cup of tea and enjoy looking through it, taking in every little detail. Last month it was like Hayley had read my mind as I had recently purchased the Gimlet boiler suit pattern by Our Lady of Leisure and was on the hunt for the perfect fabric. Along came the ‘Sew Retro themed’ box and my wish for the perfect fabric was granted! It was the most incredible denim with a tartan fabric on the inside. Parts of the denim had a ripped effect meaning the tartan was visible on the outside in places. It was definitely retro and not something I would have chosen but I instantly fell in love with it!

I made this up as soon as I got the chance too and as the fabric is a special type of fabric it didn’t need a pre-wash which meant I could get to work even sooner! I wasn’t too sure if I could pull off the boilersuit look but have admired so many on Instagram so threw caution to the wind and got stuck in. The fabric is stunning and such a great quality and as it is a type of denim it sewed up beautifully. It behaved exactly as I needed it too which meant making the boiler suit was a really enjoyable task. I was thrilled with the end result and really enjoyed wearing the boiler suit as soon as I could. I paired it with some equally funky glittery rainbow trainers I bought from Zara years ago and love the finished look.

I subscribe to the classic box which meant the perfect amount of fabric for making up a boilersuit. I would never have picked such a funky fabric for myself but as soon as I saw it I could instantly visualise the boilersuit made up. This is one of the wonderful things I love about receiving a box from Hayley – I am pushed out of my comfort zone and end up loving different fabrics and designs. I haven’t opened a box yet where I haven’t loved the fabric! Sometimes I instantly know what to make and other times I get inspiration from other sewists and the fabric gets transformed into something a few months later. My girls always claim the fat quarters to make clothes for their teddies.

The little magazine that is included in each box is a lovely little addition and I enjoy reading it when I get a chance to sit quietly. I often end up stashing it in my bag ready to keep me entertained whilst I wait for one of my girls to come out of an after school club or Brownies! The haberdashery item included is always handy and I have been introduced to so many other small businesses I now follow, admire and try to support too. The temporary tattoos included in Octobers box were really fun and my girls have already nabbed one each! Thank you for another fabulous box Hayley and for pushing me out of my comfort zone each month.
