Esther’s Burda 6966 Trousers
Esther received the bright and bold Lady McElroy Magenta Haven viscose lawn in March’s Luxury Box and made a pair of trousers using Burda 6966 pattern
I’m always excited to receive the Luxury Box knowing that I have a wider variety of garments that I can make. The beauty of this fabric is everything for me.
I love colour! I love dressing in bright colours. I am instantly drawn to the brightest coloured fabrics. So when I received this fabric, the excitement was next level. This gorgeous floral fabric was just what my Spring/Summer wardrobe needed. As soon as I saw the fabric I knew I would find it difficult picking a pattern to make because I really wanted a garment that would do the fabric justice.
I had limited time to make my garment but I didn’t want that to prevent me from making an awesome piece. This viscose is so versatile because it’s lightweight and drapey but with enough body to work well with a variety of garments. It’s also opaque enough that it doesn’t require a lining. My initial thoughts were to make a wrap dress, the Sew Over It Eve dress, Elodie wrap dress and Aura dress by Papercut were contenders. I resisted every urge I had to go for the By Hand London Anna dress so I could challenge myself to make something different.
I thought about it a little and realised I could probably do with some trousers instead of a dress, I considered the Winslow Culottes but went another way. I decided to make the Burda 6966. I love this pattern so much. There are only three pattern pieces which makes the pattern quick to cut and even quicker to sew. This was such an easy make but I love the finished product so much. I made the waistband piece about 2cm bigger to give a thicker waistband. I also lowered the crotch a little bit.
I’m so looking forward to when it gets warmer so I can wear these trousers with a range of tops. I actually have a bit of leftover fabric which I’m planning to make a camisole out of. I think that would create an awesome faux jumpsuit look.
