A monthly box of sewing goodies, delivered to your door

Life’s A Beach

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, oh I do like to be beside the sea!! Yes this month’s box is bringing the glorious British seaside vibes with nautical inspirations.

The inspiration for this box actually started over a year ago when I was making a swim bag for my daughter’s swimming lessons. I wanted a label that said something like “Make Waves” or “Make a Splash” but couldn’t find any. Luckily I knew just the lady who could create such a thing and so the box took shape around the gorgeous labels that Victoria of Little Rosy Cheeks designed for us.

Luxury Box

One of the simplest pleasures on a warm day at the beach is a bit of cloud spotting and this fabric perfectly captures this. A gorgeous cotton jersey with a floating cloud print on a sky blue background, this fabric will make some perfect summer garments and luckily the pattern included ticks all the boxes!

The Modjo pattern from Atelier Scämmit has pretty much everything you could need in a summer jersey top and dress pattern. From a basic T-shirt with three different necklines and various sleeve options you can then switch it up to a T-shirt dress or add a gathered skirt for a different look again. In total this pattern gives you up to 60 different variations… talk about bang for your buck! This is a great garment to pop on over your swimsuit before heading to the beach.

The supplementary fabric in this month’s Classic and Luxury boxes is 1m of this beautifully soft yarn dyed cotton stripe in teal. As well as being the perfect fabric for a summer tote bag it also works great as a pair of shorts or little shirt. If you are a subscriber to the boxes make sure to join our Facebook community page for lots of inspiration on how others are using their supplementary fabric.

Classic and Mini Boxes

A love a print that is subtly novelty without being so much that you can’t wear it all the time! This fabric ticks that box, a navy blue cotton poplin with a sweet little starfish print in white. From a distance it’s a lovely blue and white fabric but only when you get closer and spot the detail do you realise they are cute starfish! This is a fabric that would look amazing sewn up into a pair of short dungarees, shorts or trousers paired with a simple white t-shirt.

These gorgeous labels from Little Rosy Cheeks feature a blue and green wave design in the background with a bold “Make Waves” slogan, giving a little bit of motivation as you wear your gorgeous hand-made garments this summer.

As well as our fabulous magazine and a reel of Gutermann thread every box also includes 2m of white piping cord, which as well as being great for making piping would also be perfect as a drawstring for a bag, pair of trouser or dress that has a channel sewn in the waist for a drawstring.

So… it’s time to enjoy our great British summer in style, bring on the fish and chips and 99’s with a flake!
