Make of the Month; Holly

Hi everyone, I’m Holly and I was so thrilled to be Hayley’s make of the month for my gingham seersucker Seren Dress! It is such a treat receiving Hayley’s boxes every month and the ‘Picnic in the Park’ box for June was no exception.
All the items suited the theme perfectly, and not least the gorgeous blue and white gingham cotton seersucker fabric – it really does scream summer to me! I love the colour blue and couldn’t wait to sew something with it. After deliberating for a few weeks on what to make, I settled on the Seren Dress by Tilly and the Buttons. The fabric had a bit of structure to it whilst still being lightweight enough for a summer dress so I thought it would be perfect.

I absolutely love the Seren Dress pattern and have made a dress and a top hack version before. It has a fitted bodice with optional flounce or tie front, there’s also two different length A-line skirt options. It’s finished with a button stand which runs down the entire length of the front of the dress – so around 12-14 buttonholes in total! I decided to go for the tie front bodice option and knee length skirt.
The fabric washed wonderfully and was so lovely to cut, sew and press. Before I knew it, my dress was almost finished! Even the many buttonholes were no problem with this lovely stable fabric, I sewed some plain white buttons on to finish it off which I think really bring out the cute little white daisies covering the fabric.

I’m so pleased with my final dress and have worn it many times on a sunny day this summer so far. I’m also really looking forward to sewing my custard cream patch that was in the June box onto a jersey top and using the pretty floral fat quarters for some make up bags too!
Receiving my SewHayleyJane box definitely brightens up any day and my favourite thing to do is sit with a cup of tea and the sweet treat, dreaming up what I am going to make with the gorgeous fabric that’s included – thank you so much Hayley!
