October Inspiration – The Fat Quarters
Have you used your fat quarters yet? I’d love to see what you made. You can email me pictures, or tag me in your photos on social media. I have set up the #sewhayleyjanemakes just for you so don’t forget to use it!
So far I have made one of those twisty wire head bands out of the orange and white floral piece. I have a feeling I’m going to end up with quite a few of these in my stash. I wear them quite a lot – minimum effort, maximum effect! Lovely!
I don’t know about you but I have quite a library of sewing books and magazines that are great to turn to for ideas. When you read it’s handy to have some little sticky notes to hand so that you can mark the projects you like the look of… I tend to forget they are there otherwise!
Learn to Sew with Lauren by Lauren Guthrie is a great book for projects for all abilities, these little snap frame purses are really cute and use very little fabric!
With Halloween coming up I thought these little treat bags would be perfect if you have any little children in the family. Or big children… I’m sure my husband would love a little bag filled with sweets and chocolate!
I’m loving this Oragami Bento Bag – can fit much more chocolate in there. I think I’ll make this one out of my fat quarter stash. Of course it will be a lot more colourful, what with tiny little woodland creatures all over it!
Keep yourself snug with a fat quarter infinity scarf. I know one of my wonderful customers has already done this with her autumn stash and it looks great. Perfect for a walk in the woods kicking up all those crunchy leaves!
For something a little more practical you could make a colourful bulletin board, who doesn’t love a trip to the diy shop? You could play around with the patchwork look too to make it more individual. Different size squares or rectangles of fabric, really go crazy with it!
How adorable are these little baby shoes? When you reach a certain age (my age) you suddenly notice an awful lot of your friends having babies, it’s like an epidemic! These little shoes would make the perfect homemade baby shower gift.
And finally, this time of year makes me want to spend longer in the kitchen, baking or making comforting, warming meals. This apron will help keep you nice and clean. I realise this makes me sound like a magazine for the 1950s housewife… “women… your husband wants to come home from a long day of work to a delicious meal. How is he supposed to enjoy it if you’re not looking your most pristine? Make yourself a pretty little apron so that you can please everyone.” Of course… this is most definitely not the reality in my household!
So just a quick post for you today, I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any other ideas let me know!!
Happy Sewing!
