A monthly box of sewing goodies, delivered to your door

Subscriber Profile; Gloria

Every month I ask one of my lovely subscribers to tell us a little bit more about themselves, how they got into sewing and what they enjoy about signing up to the SewHayleyJane boxes. This month I caught up with Gloria who you can find on Instagram @mrsgloriawalker

Tell us about your sewing journey. When and how did you start sewing?

My sewing journey started with sewing winter clothes for my Italian Greyhound, Clover. I made a few house jackets for Clover and a few pajamas for me using the same flannel fabric. I was thrilled to have matching flannel outfits for Clover and me. Sewing matching outfits for my dog was the start of sewing matching outfits with my mom. My mom became my biggest fan, and she was not shy about modeling her new outfits. Now, three years later both of our closets are filled with me-made garments!

You have been subscribed to the Luxury box since June this year, do you have a favourite box from the last few months?

My favorite box is July’s “Riviera.” We had plans of traveling to Spain and France, but sadly, the world is still “closed” for tourism. It’s like Hayley knew the next best thing was to bring a taste of the Riviera to us with this beautiful blue tile print fabric from the Fabric Godmother. I knew right away that I had to pair the blue and white viscose crepe with The Olivia Dress from The Pattern Preacher. The Olivia Dress has a shirring waistband that I did in a solid blue fabric for added interest. This dress looked fantastic on….my mother! Yes, I had made the dress too big, so I sent it to my mother who lives in Las Vegas. We were very pleased with the way the dress fit. I couldn’t wait for her to visit so we could have a photoshoot. I even had enough fabric to make myself a top, a dress for Clover, and a tiny scarf for Leela, mom’s new puppy.

What is the best thing about receiving a monthly box of sewing goodies?

The best part about receiving a box of sewing goodies is the element of surprise! SHJ subscribers are so wonderful about keeping the contents of their boxes a secret! Living in Southern California, I can expect my box to arrive between the 10th and 15th of the month. As soon as my box arrives, I look for my fellow subscribers on Youtube for their unboxing videos. I love seeing what’s inside their boxes and hearing about their plans. It’s so inspiring! The second best thing about receiving a SHJ box is enjoying a bit of the United Kingdom in every box! Since we are not traveling anywhere, it’s fun to have the UK come to us!

Do you have a favourite make from your subscription?

My favourite make is a tote bag and matching masks made from July’s fat quarters. I just love how each fabric coordinates with each other. Another favourite make is a cute harness I made for Clover using June’s “Cherry” cotton from Art Gallery Fabrics, of course matching my pinafore or “jumper” as called in the states.

Are you working on anything at the moment?

Like most, I have been working from home and my “home office” is in my sewing room. This allows me to work on projects between breaks. I do have a few patterns cut; however, after seeing October’s fabric and pattern, I have moved it to the top of my list. Lady McElroy’s viscose challis lawn in cinnamon will become a Kobi dress for myself. I will take extra care to cut out the correct size for me!
