Tell us about your sewing journey. When and how did you start sewing?

When I got Pregnant in 2017 I was shopping in Aldi and they were selling sewing machines for £70 so I decided it would be nice to make the baby a quilt. I’d had a look on Pinterest and got some ideas and popped to my local craft shop. It wasn’t then until 2019 when I got pregnant again that I got my sewing machine out to make another quilt, we then went into lockdown and some cute baby bloomers came up on my Instagram so I started cutting up my partner’s old work shirts, I was so impressed at how nice they looked it gave me the creative sewing itch to try out a pattern. Once the shops reopened I walked to Needlecraft local fabric shop and bought a baby romper pattern, this gave me the courage to try a pattern for myself. Until buying a Tilly and the buttons Billie pattern I hadn’t realised how popular sewing was, I started following a hashtag which then opened up this amazing world of other sewers.

You have been subscribed to the Classic box since March, what made you want to sign up?

After making my first dress I started following a few people and noticed their hashtags were #sewhayleyjanemakes on a lot of their makes, once I started following #sewhayleyjane I couldn’t help myself, I didn’t want to miss out on the excitement of what could be in the next box.

Do you have a favourite box since you started your subscription?

My favourite box so far, I’d say I have two, the viscose Challis blue animal print from May’s “Wild Side” box and the white double gauze from June’s “Escape To The Country” box, both of which I made a Sia Dress (one of my favourite patterns as it fits me so well)

What is the best thing about receiving a monthly box of sewing goodies?

I have two small children so it’s so nice to have a treat that is just for me, and as I’m not working at the moment it also gives me my shopping fix so I can make the latest dress or blouse.

Do you have a favourite make from your subscription?

My Sia dress with the double gauze and my Calvin wrap dress with the red gingham cotton from August’s “Lazy Hazy Days” box, another of my favourite patterns.

Are you working on anything at the moment?

Now that we are coming into autumn I have been looking at making a blouse and have been eyeing up the Bloomsbury blouse by Nina Lee and the Pauletta blouse by Fibremood.
