What an incredible first year of celebrating amazing independent dressmaking patterns as well as other fabulous sewing businesses and talent we have had over in the Pattern Club at ThreadySetGo.
When ThreadySetGo launched last year I wanted to find a way to combine all the things I had worked hard to build with the SewHayleyJane subscription boxes – connecting the general sewing community and the independent businesses and designers who’s patterns and products we loved. All focused around dressmaking patterns each month.
And so The Pattern Club was born. Each month has a different dressmaking pattern as it’s focus, with helpful video tutorials to guide you through some of the steps involved, support in the free forum and then at the end of the month (whether or not you have sewn the pattern) a live event with the pattern designer plus other special guests that would be some kind of cross between a live podcast and celebrity chat show with our members in the (virtual) audience asking the guests their own questions.
The live event itself has been a real highlight every month and we have met some absolutely amazing and inspirational people who have shaped our hobby.
So let’s take a look at the first year of the Pattern Club, the patterns we’ve sewn and the guests we’ve met along the way.
March 2025

It all kicked off in March with the Cinnamon Daisy Sylvie Skirt – the twirliest skirt I’ve ever made!
I’d been admiring Cinnamon Daisy dressmaking patterns ever since Laura’s Willow Dress, feminine, size inclusive and all with really interesting details. The Sylvie skirt felt like the perfect one to start with. Made up of 11 panels to create a circle skirt you could definitely have some fun with colour blocking. I opted to keep it simple with fabrics that I had in my stash, this first one was a Lady McElroy viscose made in the shorter version.

The second skirt I made in a crepe purchased from the Rainbow Fabrics stall at the Stitch Festival. I went for the longer version on this one which I prefer to wear in the summer. The shorter version is perfect for me in the colder months layered up.
Honestly, an absolute dream to sew up. The skirt is finished with an elasticated waistband, a side zip and the option of a big tie bow.

Our first live event was just amazing (despite how nervous I was!!). We were joined by Emma from Cinnamon Daisy, Harriet from Sew Me Sunshine and Amy from Almond Rock Sews. We chatted, I had plenty of questions and we found out more about each of these wonderful ladies.
April 2025

Go big or go home!! I am so proud of myself for including something like the Eddy Cardigan Blazer by Friday Pattern Company so early on! This one definitely tested not only my own sewing skills but then the ability to share them in the video sewing tutorials as that back vent with lining was a complicated set of techniques.
But the result? Wow!! I am looking forward to getting this jacket out again as we head into spring and the slightly warmer months, this one I made using the Fabric Godmother Ace denim along with a viscose challis for the lining from my stash.
This was also the start of reaching out to pattern designers that I have admired for a long time but not really had the chance to work with. Chelsea from Friday Pattern Company just sort of oozes cool doesn’t she? So I was really excited to chat with her as well as Paige Joanna who not only works with Chelsea but also has her own brand and is someone I had worked with a couple of times before.

May 2025
After the intensity of the blazer the previous month I wanted to go for something super beginner friendly and Tilly and the Buttons had just released the perfect pattern – the Samara Top. What I loved about this sewing pattern is how different it looks in different fabrics.

The first I made in this gorgeous blue broderie anglaise that I had been keeping in my stash for ages waiting for the perfect pattern – I feel like I need some white or cream trousers to go with this one ready for the summer. This fabric is a little more structured than the bright pink viscose slub I used for my second one (that colour was hard to film in the tutorial videos!) which has a lot more drape to it. Resulting in two completely different tops.

We were then joined in the live event at the end of the month by Team Buttons – Francis and Virginija as well as one of the lovely pattern models Sinead – I feel like I was really starting to find my feet a little more with the interview side of things which resulted in such a lovely, warm and inspiring conversation.
June 2025
It was time to include a pair of trousers and I was totally inspired to go for the Helen’s Closet Falconer Pants after watching What Vicki Made share her fitting process on Instagram. Helen’s Closet dressmaking patterns are so loved by the sewing community and having followed Helen on Instagram as well as the Love To Sew podcast I have to admit I was a little nervous for this one.
But Helen was so lovely when I reached out to her and was totally up for being part of the Pattern Club so I was excited to forge ahead.

What I liked about these is that although they can be made in denim they aren’t your typical jeans and so could be made in various other fabrics as well making them really versatile. Helen’s Closet instructions are among the best, especially for that fly zip which can be pretty intimidating, but it came together with zero issues and I had a lot of fun making the tutorials.
This was also the first one I filmed in my new home studio as this was when we shut down the subscription boxes and moved out of our unit.

Now although I love these trousers I don’t find myself reaching for the denim version as much as I do my linen version and I think that is because the leg is so wide one me as it falls from the hips and I have very wide hips. So when I make another pair I will try and slim down those leg pieces and also add a bit more depth to the hem to balance it all out.

I was so excited for June’s live event where we were joined by Helen as well as Kate from The Fold Line and Jen from Jenerates both of whom I had worked with quite a lot before. The conversation flowed for almost an hour and a half and they were all just such lovely guests. This was also the first one where I’d realised I could record the live event and post the replay which you can find at the end of the video tutorials for the Falconer Pants.
July 2025
It took me a while to settle on which dressmaking pattern I wanted to go for in July – I knew I wanted a woven dress that could also be a top with different sleeve options. Enter the S.O Sew Dressmaking Emily dress and top – an absolutely gorgeous pattern with multiple neckline, sleeve and hem length options. This was honestly a dream to sew, I’m in love with the square neckline and both the puff and bishop sleeve are so lovely.

The maxi dress version had me feeling like an extra in a Jane Austen adaptation which was totally ok by me. Sadly this viscose twill has sustained some damage in the form of thread pulls across the bodice and after two hours of meticulously trying to pull them back into place I had to admit defeat which I’m so gutted about.

July’s live event was another amazing, uplifting and inspiring evening (I mean… they all are!) where we were joined by Sharlene from S.O Sew Dressmaking alongside Victoria from Little Rosy Cheeks and Gemma who hosts the Sewing Social Podcast. Up until now the live events had included some time to breakout into smaller groups with each of the guests for some social chatting time, but over the course of the year, with experience and feedback this started to change as the interview portion was just sooo good! More changes were to come in a couple of months.
August 2025

Mid-summer requires ultimate comfort in the form of jersey dresses. I’ll always be a maxi dress girl as soon as the weather warms up so this month I opted for a simple show stopper in the form of the Lucy dress and t-shirt from Sew Over It.
When I started SewHayleyJane Sew Over It provided me with so much inspiration, both in terms of sewing and business. I just soaked up everything they were doing so it was a real pleasure to work with them.

Lucy was so simple to sew but gave some extra pizazz thanks to a saucy side split and a drawstring channel at the waist. This was also the first month I started reaching out to fabric companies to collaborate on the Pattern Club and this beautiful cotton jersey was sent to me for use in the video tutorials by Beyond The Pink Door.

Rosie who now heads up Sew Over It and Alma who is the social media and marketing manager joined me in the live event along with Andrea from Beyond The Pink Door. These live events really have become so special, getting to know more about the wonderful people behind the businesses we love is just so exciting!
September 2025
Time for another pair of trousers now, as we were heading into autumn I wanted something that would span multiple seasons, a wide leg pull on trouser that had something a bit special. That’s when I came across the Sew Liberated Chanterelle Pants.

The Chanterelle pants came as three options – wide leg trousers, barrel leg trousers or as shorts. I always love a floaty wide length and these fit like an absolute dream – the rise is normally somewhere I need to alter but the Chanterelles were spot on for me, no bagging around my tummy at all.
I did also sew the barrel leg style in a gorgeous vintage cotton I purchased from Guthrie and Ghani… but the jury is still out for me on whether I like that style! However I was incredibly excited that Lauren from Guthrie and Ghani joined me in the live event along with Meg who is the founder of Sew Liberated and Vicki from What Vicki Made. Yet another wonderful evening with so much inspiration just exploding out of these ladies.

October 2025
Ok, time for something a little different now and definitely something that was going to seriously stretch my own skills and, quite frankly, my own patience! I wanted a bag.
Now I could have gone for a sweet little handbag, or a stylish crossbody bag but honestly, something that I have been needing in my own life is a decent backpack. One that I can fill with water bottles, snacks and essentials for family days out when I need my hands free.

Studio 7t7 was the perfect place to look. Emma has been doing amazing things with her business and I’d been seeing her subscription boxes popping up all over the show. The Luna backpack looked perfect, intimidating, but perfect! But my goodness my machine was barely up to the task. With so many layers of fabric, interfacing and foam to get through I was so lucky that I didn’t break a needle.
But what resulted were two super cute, very practical bags… one of which has been claimed by my 8 year old has her school bag. I’m taking that as a pretty big compliment! That bag was made from two beautiful cotton canvases sent to me from Jenny at Jenny Stitches who joined me along with Emma from Studio 7t7 and Louise from Ethel and Joan in the live event.

November 2025
I cannot even begin to tell you the excitement levels when I booked this months Pattern Club, the pattern itself was one I’d been meaning to make for a while but the guests in the live event at the end of November… pinch myself moments!

I think we all have people we really look up to or admire, and whilst there are many and I have genuinely loved all of the guest we’ve had so far, but I was so excited when Heather Lou from Closet Core said yes! Even more so when Caz who won this year’s Great British Sewing Bee said yes and then topped it all off with Georgie from Hey Sew Sister… what a lineup!

The pattern I chose was the Nicks Dress and Blouse, one that I’d been eyeing up for a long time and knew it would make a great dress to wear throughout December. How gorgeous is the bow print cotton fabric sent to me from Hey Sew Sister? It stitched up like an absolute dream.
December 2025
We are getting close to the end now, if you’ve made it this far well done!! December I chose to do something a little different. I knew our usual end of the month Live Event wouldn’t work in December so instead we had a bonus fun pattern for the month in the form of the Tammy Handmade Lila Pants. Super quick and easy to stitch up in fun fabrics, I wanted to go for something festive and the lovely ladies at The Fabric Obsession kindly sent me a couple of cute cotton jerseys.

Adele and Becki then joined me in our last online sewing social of the year which became a festive pyjama party! Because what could be better than sewing in the company of others? Being able to do it in the comfort of your PJs!
January 2026
Finally we come to the most recent pattern and one that I genuinely have pretty much lived in for the last month! The True Bias Marlo Sweater. An oversized cardigan that you can make in the snuggliest of fabrics, either cropped or long length. Whilst I’ve made both, the longer length version is my favourite, in fact I added an extra 4″ to make it more of a dress length which you can read more about here.

Our Live Event is happening on Wednesday 28th January at 7pm and will be such a lovely evening where we will be joined by Kelli from True Bias as well as Liana from Lamazi Fabrics who kindly sent this blue cable knit as well as Zoe from the Check Your Thread podcast. The events have improved even more in the last few months as I know make sure to get questions from the audience at regular intervals rather than all at the end making it even more interactive.
Wow… what an amazing 2025 we have had, so many wonderful guests, beautiful garments and accessories and lots of incredible and genuine conversations.
I’m busy working away on the next couple of patterns and cannot wait to share more!
