Esther’s Peppermint Wrap Skirt

This month’s fabric immediately caught my eye. I haven’t sewn in such a long time and this fabric just reminded me of my love for turning a flat piece of fabric into a wearable garment.
It is such a stunning fuchsia pink viscose. The colour is bold, vibrant, and joyful—perfect for adding a pop of brightness to any wardrobe.
When I opened the box and saw the fabric, I knew it deserved to be transformed into a garment that would make the most of its beautiful texture and drape, I also wanted to make a versatile garment that would get a lot of wear. After some consideration, I decided on the Peppermint Wrap Skirt, a pay-what-you-want pattern that has been on my to-sew list for a while.

This fabric feels almost linen-like, one of my favourite fabrics to work with because of it’s natural feel. It was easy to handle, which made the sewing process a real pleasure. The fabric pressed beautifully, I always find pressing to be so satisfying, there is just something about getting all those creases out that my brain enjoys.
I haven’t made a lot of wrap skirts but there was something special in this particular design. The skirt has a simple yet elegant shape that makes it incredibly versatile, and I knew it would become a staple in my wardrobe for casual summer outings or more dressed-up occasions. I particularly love the midi length and really appreciated the generous overlap of the wrap, which ensures there are no wardrobe malfunctions on windy days. I have decided that this pattern would become a base for other wrap skirts and dresses. I really like that I can wear it without fear of the wind.

The pattern itself was a joy to sew. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. This pattern would work well even for a beginner, the only difficulty a beginner might experience is that a buttonhole needs to be created to insert the tie. Thankfully, my sewing machine has an automatic buttonhole function so this is easy enough even for a beginner. Alternatively, a zigzag stitch can be used to achieve this. I love a wrap design because I find it to be versatile, easy to fit and works nicely even when my body experiences changes.

I am especially excited about how this skirt will fit into my spring and summer wardrobe, I already have Me Made May on my brain. The fabric is lightweight and breathable, making it ideal for the warmer months. I can already envision pairing it with different tees. I have plans to make some button-down blouses as well as some sweaters for cooler spring evenings which I think would go well with this skirt so I can definitely say that this is a versatile make for my wardrobe. I love how well it goes with the Adrienne blouse I made from a previous box.
This make has been a rewarding one, the fabric was easy to work with, and I’m looking forward to warmer days when I can wear this skirt and make it part of my everyday wardrobe. It’s a perfect addition for the upcoming season, and I can’t wait to wear it out and about!
