Esther’s Sophia Top
In April Esther received the Mini box and used her 1m viscose linen to make a lovely Simple Sew Sophia Top
Spring is firmly on my mind and I was so excited to receive this month’s box and get on with my Spring sewing.
This is my first time sewing with viscose linen and it was so amazing, I want to make many more garments with this fabric. The fabric just had the perfect blend of both fibres. The fact that it’s plain coloured fabric was just the icing on the cake as it is just what my print filled wardrobe needed.
Handling this fabric was a dream but I expected no less from a viscose linen blend. The fabric was so easy to press. Cutting it was just as easy and handling it while sewing did not disappoint.
Choosing what to make was quite easy as well. I knew a top would be my best bet and would fit in most easily with my wardrobe. I decided to make the Sophia top by Simple Sew. It is a pattern I’ve had my eye on for some time and I figured it would go perfectly with this fabric. This is a two in one pattern which comes with a skirt as well to make a whole outfit and the top has just two pattern pieces making it a very quick make.
This pattern only has the body measurements but doesn’t reference the finished garment measurements which is quite annoying. I went with my body measurements and upper bust measurement to determine my size. I really didn’t want to make a toile so I just did a full bust adjustment and hoped for the best.
This was such an easy sew. The front and back pieces are cut on the fold and the neck opening is big enough so there’s no need for any closures. The neckline and armholes are both finished with bias binding giving a nice detail to the inside and the top is made to be a little cropped so it fits well with high waisted bottoms so works nicely in my wardrobe filled with high waisted skirts and trousers.
I know this top is going to keep me nice and cool as the weather gets warmer as the fabric is comfortable to wear whilst the top is loose fitting and breezy.
