Make Of The Month; Lucy
Hi, I’m Lucy and I’m this months ‘Make of the Month’. The fabric I used was actually from my first box, the ‘Palm Springs’ from July. I’m so excited that Hayley chose my make as it was a special box curated with help from the Foldline girls Kate & Rachel. I just love what they all came up with.
When I received my SewHayleyJane box through the door that month I had just been contacted by Sew Me Something to do a pattern test for their summer release The Cressida Jumpsuit and I knew this fabric would be a perfect match. In fact, I put the fabric straight in the wash and enjoyed a cuppa and the bounty bar from the box whilst I waited.
The fabric is a viscose from Lady McElroy and has such a lovely drape yet still some weight to it making it ideal for a jumpsuit. I’m not one for bright patterned fabric so this one was perfect for me as the fabric is covered in flamingos, leaves and flowers but on an unusual dark background. I think that’s one of the good things about Hayleys subscription box, as I would not have thought to try this fabric but I love what I’ve ended up making.
The Cressida is a relaxed fit boilersuit style jumpsuit. Its cropped length above the ankle made it perfect for the summer but I think it would be easy enough to lengthen if you wanted a piece to transition into autumn.
I made the Cressida in time for my UK holiday camping in Cornwall and the pattern was perfect for our changing weather especially in this fabric. It was like wearing secret pyjamas all holiday. They are so comfy and the fabric was nice and cool. What I also love about the Cressida is that it covers my shoulders from the sun. A definite must for me.
I made mine with the tie belt so that I could cinch it in at the waist for a more fitted shape. The pattern instructions and diagrams are well written. Changes I made are that I lengthened the bodice as I’m fairly tall at 5ft8”, however I found this was unnecessary. Next time I will keep the original bodice length but do the legs full length.
I’m hoping I can still fit in making the Myosotis dress pattern from the same box this year but undecided on what fabric yet. I think I would like some kind of plain fabric that’s a bit warmer for this season or perhaps a dressier version for the evening. I find it so inspiring looking at everyone else’s makes on the hashtag and I just love Hayley’s version of the dress. I really enjoy receiving my new box every month and can’t wait to see what’s in the next one. Thank you Hayley.
