Make of the Month; Claire
Last month Claire put that gorgeous barcode stripe viscose linen mix to fabulous use by making the Rosie dress by Cotton + Chalk (a free pattern with Simply Sewing Magazine)
I am completely thrilled that my dress has been chosen as ‘make of the month’.
My decision to subscribe to SewHayleyJane was easy for me as the themes were different every month and the quality of the fabric looked fantastic. I thought that it would introduce me to different fabrics, so I could expand my sewing skills.
March’s box didn’t disappoint, I adored the Back To Nature theme and the contents were a beautiful selection of fabrics.
My Classic Box contained a delightfully bold barcode stripe fabric in a linen viscose. I was given the pretty peach version. I knew instantly it would make a fabulous summer dress.
Looking through my pattern stash, I stumbled upon the Rosie dress by Cotton and Chalk, I decided that this would work well with the fabric. It was a simple pattern, I loved the shaped front of the bodice and thought it was a flattering design.
I extended the length of the bodice by 1.5 inches, which is usual for me and my shape! I decided to go with vertical stripes for the dress with horizontal at the waist. This meant I didn’t have to pattern match! The dress took about a day to make and I love the fit. It is very easy to wear, I’ve had lots of nice compliments.
I don’t think I would necessarily have bought this fabric myself, but I really love it and that’s the best thing about receiving the boxes every month, you never know what you will get and what you can make.
Thank you Hayley x
