Subscriber Profile; Tina

Welcome to a new segment on this here old blog! Every month in the magazine that is included in my sewing subscription boxes I interview one of my lovely subscribers to find out more about them, why they chose to subscribe to their particular box and what they have enjoyed making. Decembers interview was with the fabulous Tina who you can find on Instagram @tinalovesmetal.

Tell us about your sewing journey. When and how did you start sewing?

A few years ago, I was feeling a bit stuck creatively, as I was spending most of my time either working or travelling to and from work. My main hobby was yoga, which I love, however I was finding myself wanting an activity to inspire me and challenge my mind in a different way. My husband suggested I buy a sewing machine as I was often browsing clothes and bags in my free time and he figured it would be satisfying to be able to make them myself. At first I was only making simple crafts and learning my way around the machine – my little sister even gave me a crash intro course on hers. Then, I started finding out more about dressmaking and trying out a few of Tilly and the Buttons beginner patterns. Nowadays, I am constantly looking for a spare minute to sew (I have a five-month-old, so it isn’t the easiest task to find time) and even go to bed dreaming of what I will make next!

You originally signed up to the Classic box and have recently switched to the Luxury box. Do you have a favourite box from the last few months?

Ah! It is so tough to choose! I really enjoyed the Palm Springs box and the checked crepe from the Sew and Tell box is so gorgeous. That being said, I think the last box was my favourite – I adored the print and am so excited to try sewing with double gauze.

What is the best thing about receiving a monthly box of sewing goodies?

It is just so nice to look forward to an exciting surprise every month. I also find that getting the box is challenging me and my sewing skills in a fantastic way – I am trying colours, prints, fabric types and even patterns that I wouldn’t necessarily think to choose on my own.

Do you have a favourite make from your subscription?

I love my Nina Lee Kew Skirt from the Palm Springs fabric, but now that it is cold, I am constantly wearing my cowl neck Freya. I made that from September’s lilac jersey.

Are you working on anything at the moment?

I have last month’s double gauze cut out and ready to sew into Deer & Doe’s Nénuphar jacket.
