Summer Patterns for 1m Fabric
Every month the SewHayleyJane boxes include 1m of a supplementary fabric, perfect for smaller makes and projects. July’s “Tropic Like It’s Hot” box had a bold a beautiful polycotton that is perfect for holiday makes.
The composition is great for packing in your suitcase, as it’s pretty crease resistant! Here’s some ideas for what you could make with just 1m of beautiful fabric.
- Atelier Jupe Finn shorts
The Finn shorts are perfect for sunny days and holidays! They have an elastic waist and topstitched pockets. You can choose to have a full elastic waist, or only have elastic at the back and a flat front, depending on your preference. You can also add cuffs to the shorts for a dressier look, though this will require a little more fabric. The pattern also comes with the Billie top, which would look brilliant in a complementary plain fabric.
2) Matchy Matchy Open Back Smock Top
The Open Back Smock Top is a fun and simple summer tank, which is a quick and satisfying sew, and a great pattern for beginners. It has an A-line silhouette with a high front neckline and features a split back with a single button closure. The length is slightly cropped, designed to hit low on the ribcage and show a touch of skin.
3) Sew DIY Lela Skirt
The Lela Skirt is a beginner friendly pattern that is equally as easy-to-sew as it is to wear. This casual skirt features an elastic waist, straight silhouette and a split hem. There are multiple length, hem and pocket options, meaning you really can make a skirt that’s perfectly you!
4) Melilot Sunni Visor and Hat
If you want to keep the sun off your face, then this hat will be your summer bestie. Choose between an open visor with a tie at the back or a hat with full coverage. You can also choose different fabrics for each side to make a reversible version. If you are a beginner, the tie version will be a great place to start.
5) McCalls Baby/Child Top, Romper & Trousers (M8461)
I couldn’t resist including these adorable & stylish toddler holiday outfits – great if you’ve got a little one in your life to sew for! The top and romper have smart details such as short sleeves, collar and placket. The romper has elastic at the waist, front pockets and snap tape at the crotch for easy changing. The ankle length pants have seam details, a front yoke, decorative buttons at the pocket flap and an elastic waistband.
