Seemingly the weather here in Manchester is predictably unpredictable… One minute it’s glorious sunshine, and the next the skies are grey and drizzly. Rather quintessential of a British holiday I must admit!

We all deserve some self-love, and what better way than a brand-new dress that hugs your body in softness and makes you feel fabulous!
A few weeks ago I went to the theatre with a couple of friends, to see The Buddy Holly Story in case you were wondering! We decided to go out for dinner first as well. Queue the old “I have nothing to wear” dilema. It was the middle of January so it was cold and I wanted to wear jeans and boots for warmth, and also comfort as those theatre seats are teeny tiny.
Jumpsuits have made quite the fashionable comeback over the last few years and for many have become a staple part of their wardrobe.
This has definitely been reflected in the sewing pattern industry with new jumspuit patterns being released all the time, and to suit many different fabric types.
As soon as this blue double gauze arrived in the studio I had a piece cut and in the wash pronto! I did have a brief look through my pattern stash just in case something jumped out at me but I was set.
I bought my sewing machine on a whim. Most people that you hear about have a lovely romantic story, but not me! It was New Year’s Day 2018 and I wanted something new to get stuck into. I started making the basics: cushion covers, millions of zipper pouches that I didn’t know what to do with and dabbled in some bag making.
Lately I’ve been looking at my me-made wardrobe and thinking about what I make in comparison to what I wear on a regular basis, identifying gaps that can be filled with more practical garments as well as the beautiful dresses. I tend to like one-piece outfits such as jumpsuits for ease of styling, knowing that I can throw on one garment and that is pretty much my outfit sorted, however one of the gaps I identified is separates.
I tore open the bolts of this gorgeous flamingo print viscose the minute it arrived in my studio. Kate and Rachel from The Fold Line did a great job choosing this fabric when they curated July’s Palm Springs box.
One of the great things about receiving a sewing subscription box is that it introduces you to fabrics and colours that you might not necessarily have picked for yourself
