Among The Stars
“Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars”
We are floating through a night sky with this month’s beautiful boxes, full of stunning dressmaking fabrics that are not only easy to work with, they are easy to wear as well! When people think of autumn they often think of browns, mustards and greens, colours I absolutely love but maybe aren’t very easy to wear for a lot of people. Or they think novelty halloween prints that you couldn’t really wear past the 1st November.
I’ve taken those two ideas and blended them together into a beautiful box of fabric without a novelty print in sight and in an colour you can wear all year long!
Luxury Box
The Luxury fabric this month is a stunning quality cotton lawn from Lady McElroy called “Lumi Rain”. It’s a black base with white and grey spots that look like a sparkling shower of rain on a dark night. The cotton is so buttery soft and would look stunning made up as a (amongst other things) shirt like the Tropicana from Wardrobe By Me.
Classic and Mini Box
The fabric in the Classic and Mini boxes is a lovely solid black dobby cotton. This fabric has little raised dots all over the surface of the pattern giving it a lovely texture and adding a little bit of interest to an otherwise plain fabric. The cotton is very lightweight and quite sheer but looks absolutely stunning as dresses and blouses – you might want to consider lining it or layering it up for winter.
The supplementary fabric is bringing a little bit of fun to the boxes, a gorgeous teal polycotton with space and star print. Absolutely perfect for crafty projects – with Christmas on its way this would make a lovely make up or tote bag!
It’s always a pleasure to have beautiful washi tapes from Nutmeg & Arlo in the boxes, and these are no exception. These sweet little star print washi’s are my secret sewing tool, I use them all the time for sticking paper pdfs together, altering paper patterns, making a larger seam allowance on the machine and helping to keep things like labels in place before I sew them! So many uses!!
Finally how sweet are these buttons? They look like little sparkly galaxy’s. Each box had a set of 6 as well as a reel of Gutermann thread, some Haribo Starmix and of course the SHJ magazine full of fabulous reads!
