January Box: Netflix & Sew
The theme for this box was inspired by the gorgeous Katie of Alba’s Treats who got in touch with me about collaborating for one of the boxes. Well obviously I jumped at the chance! We discussed some ideas and decided on a postcard sized print with the phrase “Netflix and Sew”, because really, that’s what we all want to do!
I am so in love with what she came up with, mine is proudly hanging above my desk. These little prints would look so gorgeous framed as part of a gallery type collection, if you were so inclined.
And so the theme for January was born. I had images of watching The Crown in handmade pyjamas, comfy skirts or trousers in soft cotton, snuggling up with a quilted cushion and eating popcorn. I hope that I have conveyed that with the contents of these boxes.
The Luxury Box contains 3.5 meters of the softest double gauze from Cloud 9, who are well known for their amazing quality organic fabrics. There were two colour ways in the Luxury Boxes, both called Woodland Weaves in either Navy or White both at 45inches wide.
To go alongside the fabric is the absolutely beautiful Buchanan dressing gown pattern from Gather. There is a lot of scope with this pattern to make it completely different depending on the type of fabric you use and your choice of contrast fabric. In this double gauze it will be lightweight but snuggly, whereas in a silk it could be extremely luxurious.
The Mini and Classic Boxes each have a length of this beautiful brushed cotton in black with pink flowers. Whilst great for a pair of winter pyjama bottoms this will also make some lovely skirts and trousers and even button down shirts – I’m seeing a rather lovely Rosa shirt here.
As always I will be compiling a list of ideas for you in my next blog post so if your feeling stuck hopefully it’ll give you some inspiration.
When I saw these fat cotton designs by Victoria Louise they were just perfect for the theme. I’m definitely planning on some accessories for my sewing room with these – possibly a cushion cover and bunting but you could also complete your comfy ensemble with a pair of handmade slippers!
Other goodies included in the boxes were some thread to match the main fabric, a length of ribbon with a button print (would be great as the drawstring on a pair of pyjamas) and some self-covering buttons.
Of course no box is complete without a little extra treat and this month we have a bag of Sweet and Salty popcorn from Proper Corn. Don’t worry, I have done some extensive taste testing on this one just to make sure it was good enough for you, I even got my husbands opinion and after about five bags we can safely say that it is delicious!
I hope you enjoy your box this month and that you are eager to get stitching. Do comment below to tell me what you might make with your goodies, I love to know your thoughts.
As always remember to pop your fabric in the wash before you use it, I always stick it in the machine as soon as I get it home, that way it’s ready for me.
Happy Sewing!
