My Favourite Things
October marks SewHayleyJane’s second birthday! That’s two whole years of beautiful boxes full of fabulous fabric and gorgeous sewing goodies! I hope you have enjoyed opening your boxes as much as I’ve enjoyed packing them up.
I unashamedly decided to mark the birthday box by filling it with goodies just because I loved them, rather than them fitting one specific thing. And yes… I had “raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens” stuck in my head for most of the month.
Luxury Box
This months fabric is the most gorgeous midnight blue and black spots Crepe de Chine. It’s a fabric I’ve not sewn with before but I’ve been excited to try it out. It’s super floaty and will be perfect for blouses, shirts and lightweight tops. The colour combination makes it perfect for this time of year and would make some great office wear or teamed with your best jeans it’ll see you through an evening meal out. Plus it’s floaty drape means it works well for garments that will hide the bread basket!!
The pattern this month comes from Simple Sew, one of my favourite pattern companies… the clue is in the name! The Peter Pan blouse (which will give you lots of left over fabric for another make or two) is a simple shift top made that bit more special with the addition of a collar. Construct the collar in the same fabric or use a contrasting one to add even more interest.
Mini and Classic
My absolute fabric fabric to work with and wear is a viscose and this gorgeous burgundy viscose twill ticks all the boxes. Like the luxury fabric it’s perfect for shirts and blouses but as it’s slightly heavier weight it’ll also work well as a dress or even a skirt.
All the boxes have a gorgeous selection of woodland fat quarters from Craft Cotton Company. I love the autumnal vibe from these and they’re making me want to stick on my welly boots and head to the New Forest, I can’t wait till Mia is old enough to enjoy splashing in muddy puddles.
As well as the gutermann thread each box also has a wheel of pretty pins with a colourful teardrop head and a pack of wunderweb… a magical invention to help your hemming woes.
The Classic and Luxury boxes this month include a bamboo point turner from all time favourite sewing gift company Merchant and Mills. If you do make a shirt or blouse with this months fabric this little device will help you get a nice point on your collars… just don’t forget to trim the corners first!
