Soft Girl Summer
If you, like me, are more likely to be found enjoying a lazy picnic by the river with a good book and a straw hat than rocking a bikini by the pool after a late night partying in Ibiza then this is the box for you!
As soon as I saw #softgirlsummer on Instagram I knew it would make an awesome theme for the boxes, delicate colours, luxurious fabrics, pastels… I had great fun putting these together.
Classic and Mini Boxes
This is such a clever fabric, it’s called a vintage cotton and is 100% cotton but has the look of linen with a slight texture to it. It’s a gorgeous dusky rose colour and is a breeze to sew with and wear. It was a happy coincidence that we had this fabric just as pink is having a moment thanks to the Barbie movie.
The fat quarters are a pretty collection from Craft Cotton Co called Pastel Funfetti and we have a super simple tutorial coming soon for scalloped bunting. The fabric has birthday party vibes so would make some great reusable bunting to pull out for any happy occasion.
Luxury Box
It’s not often that we have plain fabrics in the boxes so when we do, we do it well! The fabric in the Luxury boxes is a linen chambray from Lady McElroy called Cruise. It’s 100% linen and is so lovely. I’ve paired it with the newest pattern from The Avid Seamstress; The Jumpset. A two in one pattern you can choose between a jumpsuit or dress with lots of great details.
I’m thrilled to have this super pretty floral washi tape from Nutmeg and Arlo in the Classic and Luxury boxes this month. Washi tape has so many uses in sewing including, marking a seam allowance guide on the sewing machine, marking the wrong side of fabric, taping together paper patterns and holding woven labels in place – did you know you can sew straight over the tape and then just tear it out?
We sourced some vegan marshmallow cones for the boxes this month as well as some sweet little 1cm buttons, a matching reel of Gutermann thread and of course the SHJ magazine bursting with inspiration.
