A Moment Of Monochrome
Something a little different to kick off 2018 with a muted palette of black, white, navy, grey and a little pop of sparkly gold in the fat quarters, I am totally in love with this box (there I go again, I say this every month!)
January can be such a long month after all the festivities of December, so I hope these boxes dropping on your doorsteps have brightened your day a little and kick started any “reSEWloutions” you’ve made this year.
Luxury Box
Oh this fabric, so gorgeous, so soft, so strokable! Each Luxury box has 3.5 meters of this beautiful Kaleidoscope lawn from Lady McElroy. It’s always such a pleasure to receive and prepare fabrics from Lady McElroy, their cotton lawns really are such fantastic quality and are perfect for dressmaking.
This fabric matches perfectly with this months pattern from Sew Over It, the Vintage Shirt Dress, a classically chic and flattering style. You can choose from sleeves or a sleeveless dress and can practice a few intermediate techniques such as sewing a collar, adding facings and stitching buttonholes.
With a monochrome theme I knew I wanted to include some of the gorgeous goodies from Merchant & Mills and they really are perfect. All the boxes include a seam ripper. I read recently that you should update your seam ripper regularly as the blade can become blunt meaning it won’t work properly. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought about this before but it now makes sense why my current seam ripper hasn’t been doing it’s job properly lately!
The Classic and Luxury boxes also have a Merchant & Mills black and white tape measure that feature both metric and imperial measurements. We all know how important it is to accurately take measurements and these tape measures, branded as superior, will help to make sure your garments are tip top.
Classic and Mini Boxes
The fabric that went into the Classic and Mini boxes was this lovely leaf print ivory georgette. I love being able to include different types of fabrics in the boxes but man, this stuff is slippery! If you haven’t worked with a fabric like georgette before check out this post I wrote about working with slippery fabrics. It takes a bit of extra effort but the results will be worth it, hello lovely silky blouse!
I love the navy and gold metallic fat quarters that are in the boxes this month, both the colours and the prints are just gorgeous and I cannot wait to see what you make from them.
Every box also includes a matching reel of Gutermann thread for the main fabric and a selection of black two hole buttons to finish off your projects.
I really hope you love these boxes as much as I do, and make sure to share your makes on my Facebook page or on Instagram using the hashtag #sewhayleyjanemakes.
Happy Sewing!
