Elevate
This months box was inspired by my own wardrobe edit and desire to elevate both my sewing and the garments I choose to wear for my days at the office – creating more of a professional but still fairly casual wardrobe.
So we have stunning solid fabrics, a supplementary fabric that complements both the Luxury and Classic main fabrics, a tool to help get those hems and seams accurate and of course, the brand new pattern from Tilly and the Buttons which came at the perfect time as a pair of work appropriate but still casual trousers – with the option of a welt pocket to take your sewing skills up a level!
Luxury Box
Can’t you just see that beautiful peacock green cotton linen from Lady McElroy as a pair of stunning trousers like the Thea trousers from Tilly and the Buttons? The fabric has a beautiful mid-weight quality and is such a gorgeous colour. The trousers can be made full length or cropped and has the option of patch or welt pockets at the back. There is a wealth of videos and tutorials on Tilly’s blog to help you with sewing some of the trickier aspects like the fly zip and to help with common fitting issues.
The supplementary fabric this month is 1m of a paisley polyester satin – the green perfectly matches the main fabric (and the blue perfectly matches the Classic fabric) and whilst it would look stunning as a slinky cami top it would also be perfect used as a lining for a waistcoat or as pocket bags and facings to make the insides of your garment just as beautiful as the outside.
Classic and Mini Boxes
I said it all went together rather perfectly didn’t I? The main fabric in the Classic and Mini boxes is a plain cotton chambray that just has the most love feel to it with a very slight sheen. As well as trousers perfect for the warmer months, chambray makes a gorgeous shirt or shirt dress – why not try the new Closet Core Jenna or something with some interesting pleat details like the new Zoe Dress from Emporia Patterns?
If all that fabric wasn’t enough the Classic and Luxury boxes also included a Merchant & Mills seam gauge – the perfect tool for ensuring accurate hems and seams – I just love their branding!
Finally to finish things off nicely every box had 2m of a satin bias binding as well as a matching thread and of course, the SewHayleyJane magazine, full of amazing inspiration from our wonderful community.
