Walking On Sunshine
July’s boxes really are summer in a box. Sent out in time to coincide with a UK heatwave the fabrics are just perfect and are sure to be sewn up pretty quickly to make the most of the summer sunshine.
Way back at the beginning of 2020 the lovely Paige Joanna got in touch to ask if I would be interested in including her own designed labels in our boxes. Obviously the answer was going to be a big YES but then lockdown hit and Paige also welcomed her little girl into the world so we didn’t revisit the idea until now, which turned out to be perfect!
I told Paige I was hoping to create a summery/ice-cream/beachy themed box for July and could she work her magic to create something to fit that theme and she delivered!
Around the same time the folks at Lady McElroy got in touch to discuss the idea of having a unique fabric for our boxes, a new colourway of an existing design or having an existing design on a different base cloth. Well obviously I jumped at the chance! So let’s start by taking a look at the Luxury boxes shall we?
Luxury Box
I trawled through the Lady McElroy website to find something to fit the theme and found Indie Rock – Toffee. A florenza crepe featuring flecks of black, white and pink on a toffee coloured background. I got in touch to find out if this could work with ice creamy colours of pink, yellow and minty green and the designers got to work creating this perfect fabric.
The crepe has a bit of texture to the surface and has a gorgeous drape to it, making it perfect for all sorts of summer dresses, skirts or floaty trousers.
Speaking of floaty trousers, the pattern in the Luxury box is the Tyra trousers from Ploen Patterns. A culotte or palazzo trouser with an elasticated waistband making them super comfortable for the summer in this fabric. But can be made in a weightier fabric for the cooler months.
In the Luxury and Classic boxes you will find the cutest postcard from Paige Joanna that shows a sewing themed ice cream van – who wouldn’t want to shop there?! On the back of the post card is also a sweet little woven label that says “Summer Made” with little ice creams on – I cannot wait to add one of these to a summer make.
Classic and Mini Boxes
This months Classic and Mini fabric is a stunning pale pink viscose with blue, green and white paisley print. The print screamed summer to me with the pale pink the colour of a delicious strawberry ice cream and viscose is just the most comfortable thing to wear in the heat of summer.
The fat quarters this month are from a cute collection called Mermaid Society from Craft Cotton Collection and feature gorgeous coral, purple and blue fabrics with mermaids, fish, scales and seaweed prints.
Shirring is definitely having a moment right now so every box also has a black and a white reel of elastic thread along with a tutorial in the magazine so you can give shirring a go. If all that wasn’t enough every box also has a reel of Gutermann thread to match the main fabric and a little ice cream cone biscuit from local bakery “The Little Bee Bakery”.
I cannot wait to see what stunning goodies get made up from these boxes so don’t forget to share on Instagram with #sewhayleyjanemakes or over on our dedicated SewHayleyJane subscribers facebook page.
